PR: Unit/Production Stills Photography
The chaps in the Channel 5 picture publicity department are a regular client of ours and we’ve photographed everything from live shiny floor entertainment shows to international drama productions for them. Here are a selection of shots taken for a range of their shows including Celebrity Big Brother 2014, The Great Christmas Toy Giveaway, Cowboy Builders and Home and Away.
Celebrity Big Brother:
With filming going out live, time was of the essence and we only had 60 seconds of the commercial break to get a set of solid PR shots for the show. Turnaround of images was required same day so that they could be released in the following day’s press and media packages.
The Great Christmas Toy Giveaway:
‘The Great Christmas Toy Giveaway,’ presented by Myleen Klass, Sam Nixon and Mark Rhodes and with special guest appearances from the likes of Union J; star of Eastenders, Natalie Cassidy; Olympic medallist Anthony Ogogo and McFly. We were required to provide non-disruptive photography of the show as it was being recorded as well as grab portraits of the presenters and special guests for the promotion of the show. Same day delivery was required in order to meet sign off requirements.
For this assignment we went out on location in Coventry to what was effectively a building site. With time extremely limited, we had only 30 minutes to capture arresting portraits of presenters, Dominic Littlewood and Gabrielle Blackman in between filming segments for the show. With no mains power available, we were required to work as a mobile, self-contained unit in order to get the shots the client needed.
Home and Away:
When Australia’s Channel Seven came to London to film long standing Aussie soap, Home and Away, their UK partners at Channel 5 wanted to make sure the momentous occasion was documented. A three day assignment, we were required to provide unit photography whilst filming was under way as well as provide behind the scenes insights and promotional portraits of the visiting cast both on location and at Channel 5 HQ. The work took place all over London and required our photographer to be flexible, mobile and work at a fast pace in order to get the shots that were needed.
With new news anchors, Channel 5 invited us to their in-house studio to capture the presenters both during filming and in a separate studio shoot. The shots would then be sent to their graphic department where the presenters would be removed from their green screen backgrounds and placed on the distinctive 5 News colours.
